Message from your Principal - February Newsletter

Greetings Ardagh Families,

At Ardagh Bluffs Public School we enjoyed the month of January with a few special highlights. Mr. Kirwan and I thoroughly enjoyed working with two student Principal’s of the Day (Arfeen and Erich) on January 16th. These student Principals got right to work and helped out with a variety of tasks around the school.  It was a special experience for everyone involved!

We are very excited to welcome the month of February! This month our school will recognize Black History Month.  Our Black History Committee that includes both staff and student leadership has been busy planning a variety of learning opportunities which will include sharing materials and resources with staff during our February Staff Meeting.  Our student branch of the committee has been busy creating displays, decorating the halls with posters they have selected and preparing daily e-Announcements to share facts about exemplary Black individuals with our school community.  We are eager for our virtual Black History Month Read Alouds which will feature reading by two of Ardagh’s community members, Mr. Robinson and Mrs. Stewart-Brown.

Throughout the month, our choir has been busy practicing for their video/live performance that will take place on Saturday, March 2nd for our Barrie Colts Fundraiser where they will sing O’Canada at the evening game.  Tickets for this game are currently available through School Cash Online and we are looking forward to seeing many Ardagh families at this event.  We had a HUGE turnout last year and we're hoping once again to see so many Ardagh families out together in the community. We are looking forward to our February 16th Barrie Colt’s assembly where we will have players visiting us and helping us to get excited about the game.  Be sure to wear your Colt’s gear that day!

On February 8th, we will have our regular meeting of the School Council.  These meetings are open to all parents and guardians of the school and we encourage everyone to attend.  We are always looking for your input and suggestions as well as volunteers for our many fundraising endeavours.

As Valentine’s Day approaches, we are looking forward to our Valentine’s Day dance, which will be hosted by our School Council.  They have a DJ arranged and students are busy selecting songs they would like to hear played at the dance. Treats will be sold to offset the cost of the event. Please be sure to order treats for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students on School Cash Online.

February 21 is our Raise the Dough Fundraiser with Domino’s.  Domino’s Pizza will be donating $5 back to Ardagh Bluffs for every “Ardagh Bluffs Raise the Dough Special'' purchased.  Locations include: 400 Mapleview Dr W, 203 Cundles Rd E, 827 Big Bay Point Rd, 1354 Innisfill Beach Rd and 138 Mill St.  We hope you are able to enjoy a pizza night with your family while supporting our school!

February 22 is an exciting day for our Grade 8 students as this will be Graduation Photo Day.  More information will be provided to Grade 8 families closer to the event.  We’re also very excited about our next grilled cheese day which will be held on February 23rd.  Please reach out to Mr. Kirwan if you are interested in volunteering for this special day.

On Thursday, February 29, our school will recognize and participate in Pink Shirt Day to bring awareness to all forms of bullying and discrimination and the importance of standing up for what is right, reporting incidents and being welcoming, kind, and supportive to every person in the Ardagh community.

Families can expect to receive Term 1 Report Cards on Friday, February 16th.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s Report Card, please reach out to your child’s educator as they are eager to work with you to support your child’s learning.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our school.  We truly appreciate being a part of such a wonderful school community,

 Ms. Robinson and Mr. Kirwan
